Turbocharged 2018 Mazda6 unveiled in Los Angeles
November 29 2017,
The new 2018 Mazda6 was unveiled this week at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. If the Mazda midsize sedan does not seem to have changed much outside, it's just the opposite under the hood as it receives what is by far the most significant improvement to the current generation of the Mazda6.
A turbocharged engine for the new 2018 Mazda6
Indeed, the 2018 Mazda6 will receive a brand new turbocharged engine when it enters North America later this year. The engine in question, a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T, is taken directly from the Mazda CX-9 and will produce what Mazda describes as a torque equivalent to a 4.0-liter V8 engine.
This engine will join the 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder, which in turn receives a cylinder deactivation system that will make it even more fuel-efficient.
In terms of safety, the 2018 Mazda6 will offer a set of improvements to the i-Activesense system that already includes a variety of driver assistance features. The system’s adaptive cruise control technology, for example, will now be able to slow down the car to a complete stop, and even resume the pace when the lane is clear.
