2019 Mazda CX-9: A Sizable SUV That Drives Like a Sedan
July 26 2019, Truro Mazda
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 has been improved with better handling and an entertaining drive that is typically not seen in SUVs of this size. Cabin noise is reduced and the ride is much smoother than in previous models. Four trims are in the CX-9’s lineup: GS, GS-L, GT, and Signature.
KODO Design and Premium Handling in the 2019 Mazda CX-9
The entire CX-9 family received an exterior design upgrade using heritage KODO “Soul of Motion” principles, resulting in a well-balanced vehicle. The GS trim comes with weather-sensing wipers, LED lighting, advanced safety monitoring, and big 18-inch wheels. The GS-L model upgrades to 20-inch light grey high-lustre wheels, LED fog lights, passive keyless entry, and wiper de-icer. The GT includes a 360-degree view monitor, parking sensors, power-folding side mirrors, and safety upgrades.
All trims come standard with a hearty turbocharged 2.5-litre inline-4 engine that produces 227 horsepower with 310 lb-ft of torque, and 250 horsepower if you use premium fuel. Fuel consumption rates at 8.4 l/100km on the highway and 10.6 l/100km in the city. Consumption bumps up very modestly for the AWD models.
The 6-speed transmission keeps the ride smooth and acceleration on time. GS models are front-wheel drive with optional i-ACTIV AWD. GS-L, GT, and Signature trims have i-ACTIV AWD as standard equipment. The impressive handling comes from independent front and rear struts and link suspension technology with coil springs and a stabilizer bar.
Comfort in Every Trim of the 2019 CX-9
The comfortable interior is complemented with a host of standard features at each trim level. GS models come well-equipped with a 7.0-inch colour touchscreen, three-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-way power driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The GS-L trim upgrades with a power moon roof, leather seats, heated steering wheel, second-row seats, 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar, and an 8.0-inch colour touchscreen.
The GT moves up with a digital gauge cluster, adaptive front lights, special navigation, a head-up display, and ventilated front seats. The Signature trim is luxurious with Nappa leather upholstery, a Santos Rosewood-trimmed centre console panel with illumination, and premium stitching.
There’s so much more to the CX-9 than what we can cover here. This is one of the best-handling SUVs in its class and it can’t be missed. Truro Mazda has several models ready for you to test drive, so visit us soon!
